This, That and The Other

Wow, time rushes by so fast it's like riding a cyclone sometimes. But seriously, the length of the day really is getting shorter. With all this research I've been doing for my current work in progress, I've discovered plenty about this rock we live on. I learned the length of a day has decreased by 2.68 millionths of a second. May not seem like much, but it adds up. I swear I'm feeling it.

DARKEST KNIGHT is now out in the world and it's been great. It's always so exciting to have a new book and hear such great feedback. I'll be posting the video clip of my TV interview when I have a few spare moments to get it uploaded.

My cover design projects have increased over the past few weeks and I've posted a few of them on my Duvall Design website. If you're interested in getting a cover designed for your self-published book, please contact me. My cover design rates range between $100 and $175 total.

I'm super excited about my upcoming trip to Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Writers Conference. I'll be giving two workshops at this conference so I've been busy fine-tuning my presentation. This is what my workshops will entail:

Turning Points and Reversals:

Explore the anatomy of a turning point and how it's used to build a story from the ground up. This comprehensive workshop will cover:

  • Where to place turning points for the greatest effect
  • How to use plot reversals to lift a sagging middle
  • Avoid predictability by creating plot impacting events
  • Avoid the pitfalls of episodic writing by developing smooth transitions between plot events

Deep, Deeper, Deepest:

There's more to story than plot and character. Action doesn't drive a story, it's the characters' emotional reactions that steer a story toward its breathtaking conclusion. Dig deep into your own experiences and fuel your stories with gut wrenching, heartbreaking, soul rending emotion to make your story unforgettable.
  • Explore where our emotions come from
  • Understand which emotions are similar, or how opposing emotions can trigger one another
  • Realize you don't have to experience an event to convey a realistic reaction to it
  • Push yourself to feel things you never knew you could and then filter that through your characters

I hope to see you at PPWC on April 19 through April 22. It's going to be a great conference!
