Curses and charms and a CONTEST!

KNIGHT'S CURSE is an urban fantasy about a modern day female knight named Chalice who is cursed with the mark of the gargoyle. What that means is she's in constant danger of turning into one of the ugly, fanged flying beasts and she almost does a few times during the course of the book.

There are a lot of curses and charms in this story. Part of Chalice's job as a thief is to steal them for a nefarious group of magic users called the Vyantara. So part of the fun in writing this book was inventing a variety of charms and curses. I pushed the envelope of my imagination to come up with this stuff and my creative subconscious surprised me sometimes. I didn't know such bizarre and creepy things lurked inside my head. I need therapy.

If you could create a charm or a curse, what would it be?

It's time for a contest. Woot!

This is an easy contest and the prize is a signed copy of my soon-to-be released urban fantasy novel KNIGHT'S CURSE. In less than two weeks, the book will appear on brick and mortar store shelves all over the country and it's already available for pre-order through online booksellers, including ones I didn't even know existed.

All you need to do is tell me what kind of charm or curse you would make if you had the power to do so. Good or bad, doesn't matter. Be sure to include your email address when you comment so that I can contact you if you're a winner. I'll put all the names into a bowl and have one of my cats randomly choose a winner. You must be in the continental United States due to shipping costs outside the country.

Contest extended until Friday midnight. (When will I learn that it can take more than 24 hours for the word to get out about a contest? Sheesh.)

Let's get this party started!

If it was a charm for me, I'd do one for "instant ability to play any tune I wanted on any instrument I wanted". ^_^

If it was a charm for others, I'd do... oh, I dunno, +3 to morale on anyone in a 25 foot radius.

For extra bonus credit, I'd combine them, so that I'd give +3 to morale on anybody in a 25 foot radius while I was playing any tune I wanted on any instrument I picked up!

And I live over at angela.korrati on gmail, yo.

OMG, I'M SO EXCITED.
Anywayyyssss...

I think that right now, I'd do a charm that helps me sleep, considering I've been having baaaad insomnia and school is about to start up again. Or one that helps me stop biting my nails. I WISH.

Thanks for the great oppurtunity! :)

I would choose a curse! If I were Chalice, the curse would be like a "get out of jail free" card, only for Gargoyles. If she were unfortunate enough to actually become a gargoyle, she would be able to use her curse to transfer the change from her to one of the people she's battling, or anyone trying to do her in :)

First, great blog Karen! Charms and curses... Sooo cool. What would I create?... Hmmm... If I was making a curse, it would be a curse of discontent. Because all kinds of evil naturally breeds from that one negative emotion. And charms? Idk... A charm to make me win Knight's Curse? Lol

I hope it's midnight Pacific time.

And if I could do a charm, it'd be something that caused people to swap bodies for 72 hours. Might help some people to have some perspective.

Ooh! Interesting. A curse to feel all the pain felt by the people surround them. That'll give them headache.

Charm, hmm.. this is tricky. Charm to get rid of the feeling of pain from someone (emotionally, physically). But not with consequence, because then for a fleeting moment we will feel their pain so it's quite draining.

After driving through Denver at rush hour yesterday? My curse would be to red flag dangerous drivers for arrest by the police.

I'm looking forward to Knight's Curse. It looks like it's going to be a blast to read.

I would make a charm to let me bend like a rubber band and still keep my boundaries and ethics while accommodating the needs of those around me.

I love the blurb for your new book! I am definitely adding it to the top of my new release wish list :)

Ok... hmmm... I think that I would make a charm that would allow me to fullfill my (modest) dreams under the radar so to speak. Kinda like everything I'd touch would turn to gold but in small quantities so that I don't end up on the news :)

If it was for someone else, I would make it so that they would find happiness/content in whatever they do.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Hey! I hope I'm not too late ...

Charm: Hmmm. If it's for the main character (in just about all of the urban fantasies), I'd have a regenerative charm. They seem to get seriously hurt ... a LOT. The question is what form would that charm take and how would it be invoked? You don't want it falling off, you don't want to invoke it by accident, and you may be barely able to function when you need it.

For me? I'd like one that would be similar. It would not be one to help me with injuries per se. It would be one to get rid of my various bodily malfunctions: fix my lungs, get rid of my allergies, get rid of my vertigo. Boring stuff.

I think I would create a curse.... killer fashion sense... or would that be a charm? It depends on the way that you look at it.

Hmm, I think I'd do a charm that would let me speed up so that I could get more done in a day. Somehow I never seem to get to all the stuff I want to do! (Including writing!) Great blog Karen!!
